To give a suppliers'-eye view: in our conversations with local
authority museums, we're increasingly being asked about CoCo
compliance. It is proving hard to work out what this means, and
meanwhile IT folk at local authorities are being very "careful" -
which at it's worst means it's nearly impossible for the museums
to do install any new software they're not already using.
We've had discussions with the folk running the scheme at
GSI/Buying Solutions and the Government Connect Tech Team, which
haven't yet resulted in complete clarity. However, there is some
good news and the best conclusion we have so far from them is "You
may not need to be CoCo compliant at all".
It may just come down to not allowing your suppliers to have
remote access to your servers.
