Dear list members,
Please note the seminar on (German) film by our Centre for Transcultural
Research:
Dr Rosemary Stott
Never mind the wall: the representation of cross-border romance in
German film after November 1989
The paper examines the representation of cross-border romance in four
films which focus on this intriguing facet of East German life. The
paper compares how aspects of East and West German identity and
cross-border romance and desire are remembered in the films, two of
which are by East German and two by West German directors.
Alexander Ross
Creative decision-making in the Hollywood studios and its consequences
In this paper I question the quality control apparatus at the studios,
including how scripts, novels and plays are assessed for consumption. I
consider the “hierarchy”, the qualifications of the decision-makers and
whether the best projects rise to the top. I will also try to provide an
empirical insight into the marketing-oriented prerequisites a project
has to fulfil in order to be recommended for production.
