Below is an announcement of a lecture on Wednesday the 18th of
November in Derby at the Midland Hotel (opposite Derby rail station),
organised by the East Midlands Geotechnical Group (EMGG) and the
Permanent Way Institution (PWI):

Speaker : Peter Musgrave
An Incorporated Engineer and Member of the Institution of Civil
Engineers with 31 years experience predominately in Permanent Way Engineering.
He started his railway career with British Rail in 1978 in the Civil
Engineer's department as a Technical Officer and progressed through
the technical grades into Management within British Rail. He has also
worked in Railfreight Distribution, Atkins Rail and Railtrack and
currently works for Network Rail in the central engineer team
supporting track renewals. Over the last 5 years he has specialised
in track bed investigation and design, managing the technical aspects
of the national track bed investigation programmes which support
track renewals.
Abstract :
The presentation will be in two parts, Part 1 will be covering
"Processes and Systems that are Applied to the Track Bed" and Part
two "Track Bed Assessment, Interpretation and Design"
The presentations will provide an appreciation of the processes,
systems and data Network Rail currently uses for track bed assessment
and site investigation and how the data is used to assess the site to
determine the required level of investigation and the optimum design
solution which supports the Renewal Specification.
