the links below give accounts of a collaborative printmaking project
involving artists from the Regional Print Centre, Wrexham (Wales) and
Leinster Print Studios, Co. Kildare (Eire). The project, given the name
"le Chéile" - the Irish for "together" has been running successfully for
several years now. It was intially set up as a short term collaboration
examining issues of land and language with a specific exhibition in
sight: it has now built a considerable momentum of its' own. We work in
mainly in traditional printmaking media, but are increasingly
experimenting with digital printmaking/video/sound as well as drawing.
Experiences of the collaborative process have been mixed, although
usually happy!: many have found it exciting and stimulating, some have
found it challenging and difficult. Much of the collaboration has been
carried out with members physically working on each others' prints,
plates etc., and exchanging them by post, but email contacts and
face-to-face meetings have also take place. We have just successfully
completed our first residential workshop, and images can be seen on the
