Dear Colleagues,
Vote for critical perspectives on international business (CPoIB) for Emerald's 2010 Best New Journal Award!
Established in 2005, critical perspectives on international business (CPoIB) is the only journal that exclusively supports critically reflexive discussion of the nature and impact of international business activity from trans- and multi-disciplinary perspectives, rather than within specific fields. The journal encourages authors and readers to engage with, and build upon, writings and activities from the broader societal context that challenge the hegemony of global and transnational corporations, of managerial orthodoxy and of dominant academic discourse.
In recent years, the business practices and management philosophies of global enterprises have been subject to increasingly close scrutiny by commentators in the fields of journalism and academia. Such scrutiny has been motivated by a growing desire to examine the nature of globalisation, its impact on specific communities and its benefits for society as a whole. CPoIB provides a space for researchers and practitioners in diverse fields such as management, politics, economics, geography, etc., to come together to examine questions surrounding international business. CPoIB publishes innovative, novel and high-quality papers that advance conceptual, theoretical and empirical knowledge in the area of international business.
Since its launch CPoIB has enjoyed considerable success. The journal's growing number of downloads provide evidence of its developing reputation with 14,000 article downloads in 2008 and more than 18,000 downloads (excluding free downloads) in the first ten months of 2009. Moreover, the journal is now available in almost 1,200 institutions across the globe. Currently the top ten countries in terms of article downloads are, in order of significance: UK, Malaysia, Australia, USA, People's Republic of China, India, Thailand, Ireland, South Africa and New Zealand. CPoIB's readership is truly global in scope as are its contributors and Editorial Team. The journal is included in various journal rankings including those of the Australian Business Deans council, the UK Association of Business Schools and the Brazilian Ministry of Education.
The success and quality of the journal is supported by numerous endorsements from leading academics as the examples below illustrate:
"CPoIB covers some of the most important issues facing the contemporary world - globalization, capitalism and market managerialism. These are issues that are far too important to be left to conventional thinkers on international business, and it is high time that they are critically scrutinised by heterodox thinkers" -- Martin Parker, Professor of Organisation and Culture, University of Leicester, UK.
"CPoIB has certainly hit the ground running. It has rapidly established itself as the premier outlet for scholarly work that seeks to question rather than merely accept the current state of international business and its academic consideration. Work that appears there is of consistently high quality and relevance and provides a vital addition to the field. It is thus increasingly the first port of call that I recommend to students working in the area of International Business and ever more often the outlet of choice for those producing thoughtful work in the area." -- Simon D. Lilley, Professor of Information and Organisation, School of Management, University of Leicester, UK.
"CPoIB meets a demand among scholars of international business for articles that are pluralistic and controversial and thus challenge much current conventional research." -- Grazia Ietto-Gillies, Emeritus Professor of Applied Economics, Director Centre for International Business Studies, London South Bank University, UK.
"There is an urgent need to interrogate international business, and indeed international business studies, from a critical perspective ... This is the task that falls upon CPoIB, and it is meeting those obligations admirably." -- Bob Westwood, Reader in Organisation and Communication, University of Queensland Business School, Australia.
"CPoIB is a cutting edge leader in the critical movement. The quality and direction of the journal is awesome. The editorship is in good hands to lead international critical organization scholarship and praxis to a more ethically answerable plateau." -- David M. Boje, Bank of America Professor of Management at New Mexico State University, USA.
