Dear all,
Jim Orford and I discussed the challenge of getting 450 members of the
BPS to email regarding their support of a new section at the recent ECPA
conference. I agreed to put some energy into it this week, and I will
contact the BPS for the latest update. In the meantime, Jim and I agreed
that if 50 BPS members each managed to recruit 5 others to email their
support of the formation of the section, that would be an additional
250!
I'm going to contact some folk I know - could other BPS members do the
same? If you're willing to help, I re-attach text for a possible email
below - just cut and paste to a new email to your contacts!
Thanks,
Jacqui
Re: Formation of BPS Community Psychology Section
I am writing to you on behalf of a team who are trying to get a BPS
Community Psychology Section set up. Jacqui Akhurst, David Fryer, Jim
Orford, Annie Mitchell and Jan Bostock wrote and submitted a proposal to
set up a BPS Community Psychology Section, which has been accepted by
the Research Board and ratified by the Board of Trustees of the BPS. A
letter giving the background to this proposal was published in the
October edition of 'The Psychologist'.
To progress to the next stage we need 1% of the BPS membership (approx.
450 members) to write to [log in to unmask] expressing desire to
become a Member of the proposed Section (Rule 45 (c ), including not
less than ten Fellows or Associate Fellows; then the Trustees will be
notified and the proposal to form the Section will be put to a vote at a
General Meeting of the Society called for that purpose.
The email address to which people should express their desire to become
a member is: [log in to unmask]
Please consider writing as soon as possible
Thank you
