Archaeometallurgy in Ireland has developed rapidly over the last few years - particularly
fuelled by the enormous number of archaeological investigations required for the National
Roads Programme. Many of the sites investigated have yielded very exciting new evidence
about the history of metals and metalworking in Ireland - but, as always in such situations
where progress is so fast, much of the new evidence will take a long time to surface in formal
publications. Developing ideas of best practice similarly take time to diffuse through the
system.
Following discussions at the recent HMS meeting in Bradford, a new internet mailing list,
histmet-Ireland, has been created to facilitate discussion of any issues associated with study
and promotion of historical metallurgy / archaeometallurgy in Ireland.
I am pleased to be able to announce that the list has now gone live and we welcome anyone
who would like to join us. The list is hosted by GeoArch and I will act as moderator when
required. Details of the list are given on its homepage at:
http://www.geoarch.co.uk/histmet-ireland.html
To assist in the development of the group, people joining the list may like to introduce
themselves to the other list members - and I will collate those introductions onto a "who's
who" webpage.
To subscribe to the list, send an email to [log in to unmask] with the body of the email
containing, on the first line:
SUBSCRIBE histmet-Ireland [Full name]
(e.g. SUBSCRIBE histmet-Ireland John Doe )
You will then receive a message requesting confirmation of the request, to which you must
reply. When the confirmation has been received you will then receive a welcome message,
giving details of the list commands.
To unsubscribe from the list, send an email from the subscribed address to
[log in to unmask] with the body of the email containing, on the first line:
UNSUBSCRIBE histmet-Ireland
Please report any problems with the operation of the list to me.
We look forward to the new collaborations the list will bring...
Tim
