From 1 March 2010 the University of Amsterdam offers a Postdoc position in
the social sciences. The researcher will work on a multi-partner project on
community embedded reproductive health care for adolescents (CERCA) in Latin
America. This research aims to contribute to global knowledge about how
health systems can be more responsive to the sexual and reproductive health
needs of adolescents. It's immediate objective is to create a community
embedded health care intervention that will empower adolescents. Scientific
aims include greater understanding of the socio-economic factors shaping
reproductive and sexual health and healthcare policy in Latin America.
Research will be conducted in three cities: Managua, Nicaragua, Cochambamba,
Bolivia, and Cuenca, Ecuador. The research grant is funded by an FP7 grant
from the EU.
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for designing and
conducting qualitative research on how cultural frameworks, gender and
sexual norms, and economic pressures affect sexual and reproductive health
as well as access to health care. He or she will also train research
assistants to work in each of the three sites. The researcher will analyze
and disseminate findings, including through publication in academic
journals, and collaborate with EU and Latin American partner institutions to
design and implement an effective health care intervention. The researcher
will work closely with the project leader Dr. A. Edmonds at the Department
of Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam in carrying out these
activities.
