EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST SOUGHT

SENIOR BIOSTATISTICIAN/SENIOR RESEARCH OFFICER
OFFICE OF RESEARCH SERVICES, SIR CHARLES GAIRDNER HOSPITAL
CENTRE FOR GENETIC EPIDEMIOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS, UNIVERSITY OF
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
[BASED IN PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIA]

Initial 1 year appointment – ongoing appointment is possible,
dependent on funding and satisfactory perfomance

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is one of Australia 's leading
teaching tertiary hospitals. The Hospital has over 600 beds and
employs approximately 5,000 staff who treat over 420,000 patients
every year. SCGH has an international reputation for ground-breaking
medical research and is home to Nobel Laureate Professor Barry
Marshall, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2005 for his
groundbreaking work demonstrating that stomach ulcers are caused by
bacteria and not stress. The Hospital has strong links with all major
universities in WA. It is a teaching hospital for medical graduates
from the University of Western Australia and the University of Notre
Dame Australia and is the employer of choice for new nursing graduates.

The Centre for Genetic Epidemiology and Biostatistics within the
University of Westenr Australia is a multidisciplinary team of genetic
statisticians, genetic epidemiologists, mathematicians,
bioinformaticists, clinicians, molecular biologists and social
scientists. The Centre is committed to developing ways of
investigating the determinants of complex human disease and exploring
ways of using genetic information to improve human health. The group
is tightly integrated with numerous clinical and basic science groups
in Australia and internationally, and with industry.

We are seeking experienced statistical consultants to work jointly at
SCGH and at the Centre of Genetic Epidemiology and Biostatistics of
the University of Western Australia, based in Perth, Australia. This
is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in
medical statistics, genetic statistics or epidemiology to manage a
team of analysts dedicated to supporting medical and genetic research
within Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and more broadly across the
University of Western Australia.

The successful applicant will work within a major teaching hospital to
statistically analyse human medical research data and apply their
experience in study design, data manipulation, data management and
analysis to important clinical, epidemiological and genetic problems.
The appointee will also have an adjunct appointment at the University
of Western Australia within the Centre for Genetic Epidemiolgy and
Biostatistics. The appointee will have the opportunity to collaborate
with internationally recognised experts in epidemiology, genetic
epidemiology and statistics, and will be joining a large team with
outstanding computational, statistical, and informatics support.

This senior role will involve the supervision of junior statisticians.

To discuss or clarify any aspects of the position please contact
Clinical Professor Peter Thompson on (08) 9346 4534 or email
[log in to unmask] or Wintrhop Professor Lyle Palmer on (08)
