Dear Colleagues
Goldsmiths is currently reviewing it's induction enrolment processes, and how
we communicate with students prior to them arriving at start of session.
A recent survey of new entrants (part of the JISC funded Goldsmiths Student
Lifecycle Relationship Project (GoSLurP)) highlighted three areas of particular
interest/concern - International; Postgraduate; and Accommodation.
Apologies if you have already been contact directly by my colleagues at
Goldsmiths, but I'd be grateful for any information on how your own institution
works in those three areas:
INTERNATIONAL
How does your institution support international students who are applying
for/have questions about their visa?
Do you provide information targeted specifically at the students
parents/partner/advisors?
Do you have a dedicated team of staff assisting international students from
application through to graduation?
Are there international specific activities at enrolment - what and who runs
them?
POSTGRADUATE
Are postgraduate students sent information specific to postgraduate study or
do they receive generic information applicable to all students?
Is this information circulated before, at or after enrolment/induction?
What methods of communication are used: a) before enrolment, b) at
enrolment, and c) after enrolment?
Who is in charge of communicating with students/publishing information?
E.g. is it the department, central admin, or external communications.
Are there postgraduate specific activities at enrolment - what are they and
who runs them?
ACCOMMODATION
How do you allocate places in halls?
When do you confirm places in halls?
What percentage of students who apply for halls, receive a place?
Any answers/information you can provide will be very helpful, please email
