Hi John
It might be worth contacting the UK Slip Resistance Group to see if any members have a used pendulum for sale?

Many thanks for your advice Marcus
I have been quoted around £5000 for a pendulum tester - would you know any or anyone know manufacturers that may be more competitive?
Kind regards

Hi Antonia
The only thing I would add on this is that the Surtronic Duo is designed for indoor surfaces that you feel are potentially likely to cause slipping - so you would not use it on rough concrete for instance, where as the pendulum tester can be used on both types of surfaces. Also the Surtronic Duo has to be used in conjunction with a questionnaire/software about the cleaning regime etc to give an informed view of the context of surface, where as the pendulum tester does not. The Surtronic is far easier to use than trying to set up a pendulum tester.

Marcus

Hi Antonia
You can borrow one from the Health and Safety Executive to start with. They would lend you the Taylor Hobson Surtronic duo, which is otherwise known as a "Kenny" because of its resemblance to Kenny in South Park.
Below is more info from the website of the gadget used to measure slip resistance.
http://www.spectrum-metrology.co.uk/surffloor.htm
go to the HSE Slips and trips website http://www.hse.gov.uk/slips/index.htm and although the Helpline is for info about the Slips programme, I think it is the Health and Safety Laboratory than would lend the Kenny.
I got that from a day course run by the HSE on slips, trips and falls and that's what they told the Safety Practioners there.
Hope it helps.
