Colleagues
Leeds Metropolitan University wishes to explore the potential for the creation
of a north of England Graduate Trainee Librarian (GTL) network. A network
called Chapter One already exists, with a membership largely based in the
South of England, offering GTLs networking opportunities and the chance to
participate in training/visits together. We would like to investigate if such a
network could, or should, be replicated in the north of England.
In the first instance, colleagues from Leeds Met are to attend a meeting of
CILIPs Yorkshire and Humberside Career Development Group (though we do not
anticipate this network being solely Yorkshire and Humber based) in December,
in order to discuss the idea in more detail. As a pre-cursor to the meeting, this
posting forms part of an information gathering exercise in order to address the
following questions:
a) Where are GTLs located across the north of England?
b) What is the feeling amongst colleagues about the creation of a northern
based GTL network?
c) What have been the experiences of colleagues with regard to the
operation of the Chapter One GTL network?
I would be extremely grateful if anyone could help in answering these
questions, or had any more general thoughts about how best such a network
could be administered or operated. I am happy to provide a summary of
responses for the group.
With best wishes,
Joe
