Dear Kathy,
this is a long-standing problem with handling of symbolic links in
MATLAB. It is not really a bug, but MATLAB treats symbolic links in a
different way than most other Unix software. If you cd into /home/user,
pwd will return '/data/home/user' in MATLAB, but '/home/user' in e.g. a
Unix shell. I.e., MATLAB will always follow the link. However, it is not
clever enough to remove e.g. links from the MATLAB path or to replace
them with the full path to the linked folder internally.
There is some logic built into cfg_util to determine whether two paths
are actually the same, but it does not cover all cases. The best advice
to avoid these warnings is to only use paths without symbolic links in
the MATLAB path.
Best,
Volkmar
