Chris - above all stay calm, listen to the local ABC radio for updates on
prevailing weather conditions and fire updates.
Pack valuable documents and photographs, change of clothing, Sturdy
footwear. Water. Your kittens. Anything else you feel you cannot abide the
loss of - although I would stress THIS IS UNLIKELY.
Talk to your nearest neighbours and see how they are placed. In today's
fire-fighting conditions, unless there is a catastrophic failure of
communications, it is not likely that a town in the west of NSW should need
evacuation. Having said that, I am not on the ground there, so again I
suggest local radio is your best informant.
Check your water sources - hoses and so on.
Stay out of the heat to the best of your ability. Heat exhaustion leads to
confusion.
