Position: Crime Analyst (GIS)
Location: Wales
Duration: 1 Year
Rate: £10/11 Per hour
Start: 1st December
Generics client has an upcoming requirement for a Crime Analyst to work from
its clients offices in Wales on a 1 year contract.
Purpose of the post:
To provide a professional, statistical and analytical service in support of our
Clients project, contributing to the overall development of the Partnership and
its strategic direction.
To undertake research and information analysis in the field of community
safety, in support of policy development, service planning and performance
management in a partnership context.
Duties;
• To support the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the
Clients Strategic Assessment and its related Action Plans. To work with
statutory, non-statutory and voluntary sector partners to identify and
develop relevant data-sets to inform the Strategic Assessment.
• To research, monitor, analyse and report on crime and community safety
trends, including a wide variety of partner data, to identify patterns and
sequences of activity and to make recommendations regarding the effective
targeting of resources.
• To support the project in identifying key priorities and monitoring the
outcome of community safety activity and initiatives.
• To provide a performance management service for the Partnership, including
monitoring of CSP targets and relevant National Indicators. To develop
indicators to effectively measure service delivery.
• To undertake quantitative and qualitative research using a variety of
methods to identify opportunities to reduce crime, substance misuse and anti-
social behaviour within the County.
• To provide a research facility for the Partnership.
• To analyse complex information and interpret using IT systems including
mapping software and databases, spreadsheet, word processing and
presentation packages pertinent to the analytical process.
• To present reports and results of analyses in a clear and concise manner,
orally, in writing and graphically, to project groups, relevant agencies and
Boards.
• To play an active role in collaborative working with partners involved in
research and data analysis within local and regional boundaries.
• To work with due regard to relevant legislation such as Crime and Disorder
Act, Data Protection, Freedom of Information and its related legislation, and
promote collaborative working to develop data sharing protocols between
partner agencies.
Essential Experience:
• Experience of working in a statistics, management information or research
role
• Experience of interrogating a range of qualitative and quantitative data
sources to produce reports for a variety of audiences
• Experience of using and interpreting data sets and intelligence
Essential Skills
• Experience of working with Geographical Information Systems, such as
Arcview, Mapinfo
• IT skills, such as Microsoft Office Packages, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Outlook and Access
• Ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels, both in
writing and verbally
• High standard of numeracy and literacy
• Ability to work to tight deadlines, effectively manage and prioritise workload,
be self motivated and have a creative approach to problem solving in the
workplace
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
