Scheme
The Nottingham Advance Research Fellowships are two-year fellowships to start in October 2010, and targeted at excellent postdoctoral researchers in any academic area represented at the University. As part of the application process, candidates will be required to contact the prospective host School to discuss their research project.
Criteria
This scheme offers a recognised first step into an independent research career. As such, candidates must:
-have submitted a PhD (viva does not need to have taken place)
-have had no more than six years full-time postdoctoral experience by 1 October 2009. (Career breaks such as maternity leave, EU national service and Voluntary Service Overseas can be discounted but teaching experience and/or time spent in industry since the award of a PhD should be included in the total amount of postdoctoral experience. Part-time work would be considered on a pro-rata basis).
-not have been promised, or already have, a permanent position, as they are considered to have achieved the aims of the scheme already and will not be eligible.
Closing Date
14th December 2009
Value
Salaries will be set on the Research and Teaching Staff 4/5 scales, the top of scale 5 being £43,622 (salary can progress to £ 50,569 subject to performance). An annual research expenses grant of up to £5,000 for each year the fellowship is held. Where appropriate, support for childcare to a maximum of £5,000 per year will also be available.
Application Procedure
Applicants should specify a research project and discuss their application with the Head of School (or their representative, as nominated in the 'List of Head of School Contact Details') where the work is to be carried out, prior to submission. A statement of support from the relevant Head of School will be required with all applications.
Each application must include:-
A completed Nottingham Advance Research Fellowship Application Form (available here: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/ris/html/Nottingham_Advance_Research_Fellowship_Application_Form_2010.doc)
A detailed CV.
A Head of School Support Form describing how the proposed research would fit the School's strategy and what additional support would be required (available here: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/ris/html/Nottingham_Advance_Research_Fellowship_HoS_support_form.doc)
