Hello,
I know this is really obscure and an extreme long shot, but hey, you never know.
We have lots of networked Hewlett-Packard printers. They receive a fixed address via DHCP, which currently runs on a UNIX-style system.
Apparently, if you have the IP address of a networked printer, it's perfectly possible to print directly to it, skipping the print queue and print server and also, along the way, skipping the print charging system. Consequently the UNIX DHCP server feeds all the network printers a config file, which tells them what IP addresses are allowed to print to them.
For various boring reasons we are moving this DHCP onto a Windows 2003 DHCP server. The problem I'm having is that although the process for supplying this config file as part of DHCP is lavishly documented for UNIX DHCP systems, there is absolutely no mention of it whatsoever for Windows DHCP servers, and it's not at all obvious how to go about supplying it.
All the UNIX server has to do is have this line:
option T144 code 144 = text;
...which is apparently all that's needed to define the option. Then, each printer's configuration also has this:
option T144 "hpnp/tclaser.cfg";
Does anybody have any idea how to supply this option via a Windows DHCP server?
Thanks,
Lisa.
