Hi,
from your description, it sounds like you want to normalize an EPI to a
singel-subject anatomical image. I believe this is a bad idea because,
one, the similarities between both modalities are very limited (hence
the error message), and two, if you want to align them you should use
coregistration, not normalization. Coregistration does not scale the
images like normalization does and is meant for within-subject,
cross--modality registration, so should be what you are looking for.
