Is it just me, or is the advert contained in this (thankfully small!) attachment somewhat ironic?
The advert is an invitation to apply for a very interesting research
post investigating 'The impact of the economic downturn on older people
in the UK.' The application document states that 'We are interested in
research which examines the role of older people as active contributors
to society as well as recipients of services and support.'
Excellent. However, it then goes on to specify that the position is
intended only for an 'early career researcher.' Given this criterion,
older applicants are clearly discouraged from applying. If that wasn't
bad enough, the rub is that the post, a Fellowship, is being advertised
by a charity that is active in campaigning against age discrimination;
the recently merged Age Concern and Help the Aged!
