I can support Allan's comments. I feel that you would really need a
highend (cpu/memory) Mac to run NVivo at a good speed in a virtual PC
window, regardless of which "virtualizer" you use.
I had NVivo resource problems with a very good PC gaming machine; to
get it to run properly I had to close almost everything else down (not
just ArcGIS but even MS Word and EndNote). Even then I had occasional
problems which I eventually traced to the second monitor in my system.
Having to shut so many things down and not being able to maintain a
second monitor, made NVivo unsuitable for use in my applications,
although once it was working it was pretty good.
Most of my work contains some sort of geoinfo and I find it essential
to have ArcReader (at least) running much of the time. So I moved over
to MaxQDA which I found - after a lot of messing about converting
files and getting used to the allegedly "intuitive interface" - to be
pretty good. I can also use a second monitor which I find essential no
matter what I'm doing.
