.... in case anyone is interested in joining the Department of Health press office.
There’s never a dull moment and you work with the best bunch of people.

At the moment there is very little domestic news that isn’t about health. Whether it’s hospitals, GPs, social care, alcohol, swine flu or obesity, we often dominate the front pages and the news headlines.
To become a press officer in one of the largest and busiest Government press offices in London you’ll need excellent written and verbal communication skills, razor-sharp news sense, good judgement, energy, enthusiasm, the ability to think on your feet, the confidence to advise ministers and an insatiable appetite for news and current affairs. On top of that, you will need experience working in a communications role in a busy press office, journalism or a PR agency. You should also have a good standard of education (preferably to degree level.)
As for the rewards? You’ll receive a competitive salary, 30 days holiday and membership of the Government Communications Network (GCN) with its outstanding cross-Whitehall career opportunities. But more than that, you’ll be doing what you always wanted to – working at the heart of Government in Whitehall’s most high profile department, creating the news in an incredibly dynamic and rewarding environment.
Candidates not initially chosen may be placed in a pool and called at a later date if further vacancies arise.
The Department aims to be a modern and equitable employer. We recognise and encourage the potential of a diverse workforce and positively welcome all applications and appoint on merit.
Closing Date: Midnight, 8 November 2009
