The Practice Pod brings together the PALATINE Development Award projects
of lecturer/practitioners Dennie Wilson and Ben Andrews (University of
Wolverhampton) and Nanette Kincaid (University of Chichester). Whilst
the resources made as part of these two projects were developed within
modules specific to the institution and degree programme, it was the
intention and aim of each project to realise resources that were
multifaceted and therefore re-purposable for use by the wider higher
education community.
As a day of seminars and workshops, the Practice-Pod will focus on
participants using, moving, exploring, developing, and making, through
and with a brand new set of digitally based, repurposable, learning and
teaching resources.
These resources focusing on dance technique choreography and
performance, have been designed as an intervention into student group
and independent learning and as an aid for students with dyslexia.
The workshop aims to:
* launch a video-podcast series and web-based resource for use by
the wider HE community. The video-podcast series focuses on the
choreographic process, using technology both as a creative tool within
the studio on mobile devices and within performance.
* launch a newly developed Floor Map, a Visual Scribe, a Reference
Guide DVD and a Personal Learning Profile designed to support the
learning needs and increase the potential of the dyslexic student.
* provide participants with an opportunity to view the resources, to
use the resources, and to see and learn how the resources were made and
implemented.
* facilitate participants in the exploration of how they might use
and develop these resources for their own purpose.
* provide participants with a 'goodie bag' of digital assets (DVD,
Video-Podcasts, URL addresses and links, which can be utilised within
their own degree programme.
* present research data, informed by the implementation of these
resources in modules within two different University dance departments.
* generate discourse around practice.

The Arena Theatre as a performance venue does not contain a computer
suite. The Seminar Room has a static computer terminal for
teaching/lecturing purposes. The Foyer and seminar area are Wifi
enabled.
'Practical Podcasts' and 'Floor Map and Visual Scribe' will both be
practical sessions, so please have dance/comfortable clothing (secure
changing facilities are available).
'Practical Podcasts' will involve doing some filming - we can provide a
number of cameras - if you have your own camera you might wish to bring
it.
'Filming and Editing for podcasts' is geared to those who have
experience of editing video, and will focus on the editing techniques
used to create the podcasts. We have six computers with final cut and
iMovie software.
'Resources for YOU' lead by Dr. Ben Andrews will be an overview of how
you and your institutions can access the resources. It is advisable that
delegates bring a laptop to this session.
