CoNEXT 2009 Student Travel Grants
With support from the U.S. National Science Foundation and AT&T, ACM
CoNEXT 2009 will provide a limited number of grants to students to
attend the main conference as well as to participate in the *ACM CoNEXT
2009 Student Workshop.*
Requests for travel support should be submitted via the *CoNEXT 2009
Student Travel Grant Applications website
<http://fig.cs.umass.edu/conext09travel>* by no later than *Monday, 12th
October 2009.*
The student should submit the following material: A resume, as a PDF
file, and a cover letter providing:
* A short statement (e.g., a couple paragraphs) indicating how the
student would benefit from attending ACM CoNEXT 2009.
* A brief summary (e.g., a couple paragraphs) of research interests
and accomplishments.
* An indication of whether the student has submitted a paper to the
ACM CoNEXT 2009 conference or an abstract to the *ACM CoNEXT 2009
Student Workshop
<http://conferences.sigcomm.org/co-next/2009/workshops/student/>*.
* Approximate estimated travel costs to the conference.
* The name and email address of the nominator, who will be providing
a letter of recommendation (see below).
Each student should arrange for his/her nominator (or a faculty contact
if the student does not yet have a nominator) to submit a letter of
recommendation. The applicant must provide the nominator's contact email
address in the application, and the nominator will receive an email
request to submit the letter of recommendation. It is the responsibility
of the student to ensure that the nominator's letter of recommendation
is submitted by the due date -applications missing the nominator's
letter of recommendation will not be considered.
The letter of recommendation from the nominator must:
* Confirm that the student is in good standing at his/her University.
* Comment on the strengths and potential contributions of the student.
* Indicate why travel grant support is necessary for the student to
attend the conference, and indicate the extent to which the
nominator can complement the travel grant to enable the student to
attend the conference.
Given the limited availability of travel grant support, the travel
awards will not cover the full amount required to attend the conference
and the student workshop. In particular, conference and workshop
registration costs will not be covered, while hotel and flight expenses
will be covered to the extent possible. Award amounts are expected to
not exceed $1000. As most of the student travel funding support comes
from NSF, as per NSF policy, US students will have to fly with a
US-based carrier to be eligible for reimbursement.
Strongest consideration will be given to applications that can both
demonstrate need for the travel grant, and willingness to complement the
grant through other sources. CoNEXT encourages the participation of
women and under-represented minorities.
In making Student Travel Grant decisions, students with accepted posters
or presentations at the ACM CoNext 2009 Student Workshop will be
prioritized. However, the Committee strongly prefers students who are
not authors of a conference paper or of a ReArch or U-NET workshop paper
(the Committee believes the authors' home organizations should cover
costs for authors).
*Submission Deadline:* Monday, October 12, 2009.
*Notification:* Travel awards will be announced on or around Friday,
October 23, 2009.
Those students who have been awarded a travel grant must complete the
ACM Reimbursement Request Form
<http://conferences.sigcomm.org/co-next/2009/ACMReimbursementRequest.doc>
and return it to ACM as per the administrative procedure outlined in
their Award Letter.
