Thank you for your very kind messages. I appreciate them. There will be
formal elections for the main Convenor post because I hear that several
people are now interested in this and Rosalind may be unable to give1-3 days
per week this role (as I know!) are needed. The next few months are the
most busy & intense work often arises at rather short notice.
We could have a situation with a number of co-convenors sharing out the
responsibilities but the key role, that of SIG Convenor - needs someone with
a well established experience as a mentor practitioner (ideally in more than
initial teacher training) with peer reviewed academic publications already.
SIG Convening is not for a novice in any aspect of the role.
We need to ensure that whoever takes over has enough vision, commitment and
time to lead and BERA HQ has already alerted Convenors their role will be
growing in the future.
Rosalind has generously agreed to stand in for now but this is temporary and
there will be a full democratic process of election so that everyone has a
chance to express preference.
I'm asking Jeremy Hoad to assist us with arranging elections and in the
meantime I am grateful to Rosalind for standing in at such short notice -
she is just getting over the shock! The new Convenor will stand for 3 years
and the event Rosalind is organising for our SIG will be an ideal
opportunity for vision to be enacted - not least research mentoring others!
Please continue to let me have your offer to be a co-convenor and do contact
me (off list) if you are interested in becoming a co-convenor as I outlined
in my previous message or if you are interested in becoming the SIG's
Convenor - by the way apart from the joy of the job (& I'm VERY grateful for
having been this) you get BERA Conference registration free!
All the best,
Sarah
