The Centre for Film Studies is pleased to welcome to St Andrews the Visiting Professor of Film
Studies, Jonathan Rosenbaum.
Prof. Rosenbaum is a renowned film critic and scholar and the author of many
works on cinema, including Essential Cinema: On the Necessity of Film
Canons (2004), Movie Wars: How Hollywood and the Media Limit What Movies
We Can See (2002), Dead Man (2000), Moving Places: A Life at the Movies
(1980), The Medieval Hero on Screen: Representations from Beowulf to
Buffy (with Martha W Driver and Sidney F Ray, 2004), Abbas Kiarostami
(with Mehrnaz Saeed-Vafa, 2003), Movie Mutations: The Changing Face of
World Cinephilia (with Adrian Martin, 2003), Midnight Movies (with J
Hoberman, 1991). He is also the editor of This is Orson Welles (1993).
Prof. Rosenbaum will be in St Andrews for several weeks, during which time he
will give sessions on various topics at MLitt and Honours level, as well
as a talk at the Centre for Film Studies entitled
"Goodbye Cinema, Hello Cinephilia." During this talk, Prof. Rosenbaum will discuss ongoing changes in
film culture brought about by DVDs, the Internet, and other phenomena
related to both.
The talk will take place on Tuesday 27 October at 5.15pm in School V.
