Hello,
I'll share what I have been doing to improve the usability of mobile
media/tours for museum visitors including the visually impaired. Over the
past few months I have been developing QR podcast media for museums and have
converted most existing museum podcast content to QR image formats.
How it works. People with QR enabled camera ready iPhones/iPod touch, PDAs
or cell phones simply take a picture of the QR image and it automatically
directs them to the media content both audio and video. This reduces the
need to type in RSS URLs in mobile web browsers making access to media
easier. Visit my site and download the QR Museum Directory and read a
little about how it works and how you can use it at:

Currently I am working with several museum to develop this technology as
navigational wayfinding strategies within the physical museum and mobile
virtual Internet. We would be glad to share with everyone how we do this if
there is any interest. Perhaps I can do a webinar or something if some
people like?
Let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Kurt Stuchell

Summerlee Museum of Industrial Life is currently in the early stages of
creating a multimedia/ audio tour for various parts of the museum, some
areas being outside and some inside. I am currently researching various
technologies that will present the tour through video, audio and images.
Current technologies include the iPod Touch, but is this suitable for
someone with visual impairment? If you have created an audio/ multimedia
tour before, your experience and opinions would be appreciated. Could you
please include:
What technology you used?
Were people with visual impairments taken into consideration?
Have you used the iPod Touch in a tour?
Thanks
