Dear Angela & All
As an outsider (I'm in an academic library) and an old fuddy-duddy, I was a initially surprised by this idea of games consoles in public libraries. It's made me think, though: we have courses in Computer Games Design here, maybe we should be thinking of getting consoles in the library, or at least copies of the games themselves added to library stock - although then we would then face the same dilemma as you as to which platform to buy.
Do any other Uni or College libraries with Computer Game Design courses actually have copies of games in the library?
Best wishes

Subject: Games consoles in libraries - Playstation vs. Wii
I'm presently involved in refurbishment of a large publ Afternoon all,
I'm presently involved in refurbishment of a large public library and we're considering the possibility of introducing a games console for use here. Another of our libraries has a Playstation but we're aware that at the moment the Wii seems to have the popular vote.
If your library has games consoles available for public use I'd be very grateful if you could let me know:
(a) what console(s) you have
(b) how you make these available (e.g. any security measures)
(c) what, if any, problems have you experienced?
And if you fancy dropping in any other comments, feel free!
Please reply to me directly and I'll summarise for the list.
Many thanks - regards,
Angela Wright
