Dear list,
I just want to share what I have just seen on our WMS. This one is
running inside a Virtual Machine (VMware Server).
As I had a non-working WMS after a recent upgrade, Maarten suggested
to do the usual "mv /lib/tls /lib/tls.disabled" solution for a system
running inside a VM.
I tried this, it didn't helped, but I left it "disabled".
Now I realised that the ressource BDII on the WMS was not working
anymore. The log files shows a:
[root@glite-wms tmp]# ls -l
total 12
-rw-rw-r-- 1 edguser edguser 0 Oct 5 13:49 currentStats.log
-rw-rw-r-- 2 edguser edguser 6342 Oct 5 13:49 GIP.ldif
-rw-rw-r-- 1 edguser edguser 1295 Oct 5 13:49 stderr.log
[root@glite-wms tmp]# cat stderr.log

After about an hour of googleing, I read a discussion where it was
mentioned that if you disable tls, you are left with a non-NPTL
system. And this is really true:
[root@glite-wms lib]# getconf GNU_LIBPTHREAD_VERSION
linuxthreads-0.10
Since the Berkeley DB delivered is build against NPTL support, it
doesn't work anymore.
So I changed it back:
[root@glite-wms lib]# mv tls.disabled/ tls
[root@glite-wms lib]# ldconfig -v
[...]
et voila:
[root@glite-wms lib]# getconf GNU_LIBPTHREAD_VERSION
NPTL 2.3.4
And suddenly the BDII is working again (as well as the rest of the
WMS, at least I am still able to submit jobs trough it).
I just want to have this in the archives, if someone else is affected
with a problem like this.
Best regards,
Torsten
