Dear all,
Recently, DEM (Discrete Element Method) codes are developed for modeling
clayey soil.
I want to know your opinion that is it useful to model clayey soil with
discontinuum mechanics despite of their continuum nature? (In contrast to
sandy soils)
It is obvious that there are some electrochemical forces between clay particle
that control their behavior and these forces are more important than the
mechanical forces. Therefore, at the selected REV, it seems to be continuous
despite of their separate elements.
Finally, I do you know any computer program to model clays using DEM ?
Thanks in advance for paying attention; I am eagerly looking forward to hear
from you.
