Growing Up in Scotland (GUS)
Data Workshops Winter 2009/10
Tuesday 8th December 2009, Edinburgh
Tuesday 26th January 2010, Glasgow
GUS is the longitudinal research study following the lives of 8,000 children and their families across Scotland. GUS provides new information to help develop policies and services. Data from the first three 'sweeps' of data collection is now available to download from the ERSC UK Data Archive, making GUS a valuable resource for anyone carrying out research into children and families.
Topics covered by GUS include: household circumstances, non-resident parents, food and eating, child health and development, physical and sedentary activities, use of childcare, experiences of starting pre-school and primary school, parenting styles, parenting support - access to and use of formal and informal support, parental health and well-being, child cognitive development.
Data Workshops are being held to promote the use of the data and to support academics and others who would like to work with it.
Format of the Data Workshops: the morning session provides an introduction to the data and the afternoon is a hands-on session in a computer lab that assumes knowledge of SPSS.
The workshops are free to attend, but places are limited.
