Perspectives on PGD: a one day seminar organised by the Postgraduate Forum in Genetics
and Society (PFGS)
Birkbeck College, University of London,
Friday 20th November 2009, 10:00 - 5:00
The PFGS invites postgraduate submissions (individual papers, panels or roundtable
discussions) for its Autumn Regional Meeting, to be held at Birkbeck College, University
of London. The day-long workshop aims to be a participative and useful event for post-graduates,
with an equal mix of presentations and discussion.
Papers so far include:
Law's involvement with PGD & questions of enhancement: an alternative stance. (Peter Lovett)
Saviour siblings & the law: has Luhmann anything useful to say? (Sharon Persaud)
We are particularly keen to add a disability perspective to the day, and welcome
submissions from UK postgraduates with a research interest in any area of disability and
genetics. Conference registration is free, and travel bursaries within the UK are
available for all participants, including carers. The Clore Management Centre at Birkbeck
is fully accessible.
Abstracts of 250 words for individuals and 250-350 for panels (including participant
names) should be sent to [log in to unmask] by 31st October.
The PFGS is a volunteer postgraduate forum which seeks to bring together researchers
interested in how biosciences and society(s) intersect. Set up in 1998 to explore
questions directly related to developments in genetics, it has now expanded to provide a
common forum for the next generation of academic researchers from a spectrum of fields
including - but not limited to: sociology, psychology, anthropology, science and
technology studies, law, philosophy, art and science. Overall, our aim is to engage with
each other in productive dialogue and build capacity in the study of life sciences and
society.

website is currently being reconstructed, and some sections may still be incomplete.
