Nick Colledge has taken over as Chair of Trustees of the charity Cycling
Projects from John Parkin, who has retired from the Board of Trustees
after six years of service.
Cycling Projects, based in Warrington, promotes cycling for everyday
purposes and is renowned for its innovative approaches, which include
groundbreaking work in promoting cycling for its health benefits, and to
those with physical and mental disabilities. It has a network of 'Wheels
for All' centres across the UK. Its clients include many Primary Care
Trusts, Local Authorities, Transport for London and the charity works
with a wide range of partners including CTC (formerly the Cyclists'
Touring Club), Sustrans (the sustainable transport charity) and British
Cycling. These organisations use the specialist skills offered by
Cycling Projects in ride leading and community development.
John Parkin, Reader in Transport Engineering and Planning at the
University of Bolton, said 'During the period since 2003, Cycling
Projects has grown substantially thanks mainly to the efforts of the
Manager, Ian Tierney, a very well known figure in the cycling world. It
now employs eleven full time staff and has an extensive network of
sessional workers and volunteers. I am very pleased to be able to hand
over the reigns of the charity to Nick Colledge and wish him all the
best for the future.'
Nick Colledge said 'We have a full order book including six long term
projects and have a turnover of over half a million pounds per annum. We
have developed the governance and management of the organisation in line
with the growth in the workload. Despite the recession, the medium term
future prospects are healthy.'
Cycling Projects is always interested to hear from people who may wish
to become trustees and in the first instance people should contact
either Ian Tierney or Nick Colledge.
