Dear UALL Admin Network members
Following a very successful day in London in July, the following event will be running again in Leeds on 13 January 2010. I would be grateful if you could forward these details to any colleagues who you think might be interested in attending and hope to see some of you there.
With best wishes

The Juggling Act: Student Parents in Higher Education Wednesday 13 January 2010, University of Leeds
A one-day conference to discuss the findings of the NUS Meet the Parents research report and explore how institutions can support student parents
On 30 April 2009 the National Union of Students (NUS) presented the findings of its UK-wide study into the experience of students with children in further and higher education. This draws on extensive primary research to build the first detailed account of the realities of student life for parents. The recommendations set out in this report challenge government, institutions and students' unions to work to ensure that being a student parent does not build a barrier to educational achievement.
This one day conference will hear the headline findings from the Meet the Parents research from the authors, Sarah Wayman and Geraldine Smith of the NUS. A workshop will then look at the work being done at the University of Leeds to support student parents and explore and share good practice elsewhere. Student parents will give us personal views of their own experiences and the day will conclude with a plenary session to identify ways in which higher education institutions can move forward in supporting student parents.
Cost: UALL members £95.00, non-members £125.00, to include lunch and refreshments.
