I grew up in Quebec, where there were "blue laws" that dictated that no one could get a drink in a pub on Sunday unless it was with a meal. So the pub waiter would slap a sandwich down on your table when you arrived; then it was a meal, and you could get a beer. If you tried to eat the sandwich, you discovered that it was fossilized, and everyone in the pub would yell "Put it down! Put it down!" It was a political, not an edible, everlasting sandwich. Not new or nano, though.
