As you are all aware, I was looking at the relationship between the BBC and
the British Government over overseas policy in the post-war years,
specificially leading up to and during the Iranian Revolution in 1979. After
consulting all the primary documents and arranging and interviewing many
people thanks to the contacts you have all provided me with, I have just
found that Dr. Torfeh of SOAS is waiting to publish an article considering the
exact the same ideas. After talking with her, it seems we have also reached
the same conclusions.
I do not wish to duplicate her work, but I am struggling to figure out another
event in the BBC's history which I could compare with the Iranian Revolution.
The Suez crisis and the Cold War with regards to BBC involvement has already
been done a lot, and I looked at the BBC's role in Southern Rhodesia's illegal
Unilateral Declaration of Independence in 1965 for my undergraduate
dissertation. Does anyone know of any areas perhaps left untouched by
academics so far on the history of the BBC External Services?
I would be grateful for any advice.
Best wishes,
Stephen Morris.
