ICNARC is an independent charity (registered: 1039417), set up in 1994, that facilitates improvements in the service delivery and organisation of adult critical care in the UK to attempt to improve patient care, outcomes and experience. Underpinning the work of ICNARC is a national, audit of patient outcome known as the Case Mix Programme. ICNARC has built on this audit resource to establish a broad range of externally funded research which currently includes three randomised controlled trials and four observational (cohort) studies.
ICNARC requires an experienced Statistician to assist in the provision of statistical services. Key tasks include:
* design, specification and planning of data analyses from the Case Mix Programme Database and other on-going studies;
* performance and supervision of data analysis requests from the Case Mix Programme Database, to include interpretation and dissemination of results;
* preparation and production of scientific publications and reports for ICNARC;
* presentation of audit and research results on behalf of ICNARC at both internal and external scientific meetings and conferences;
* response to statistical queries relating to analyses, reports or scientific publications generated by ICNARC;
* provision of guidance on data analysis and statistics for ICNARC staff, ICNARC Associates and for staff in critical care units collaborating with ICNARC;
* statistical input and guidance on funded research projects within ICNARC, to include participation in Steering Group Meetings;
* statistical input on design and enhancements of new and existing reports for ICNARC;
* involvement in the design, development and preparation of research proposals for submission to grant giving bodies on behalf of ICNARC;
* analysis of external datasets, as required.
Applications are invited from candidates who have a PhD in Medical Statistics (or equivalent experience); experience in the analysis of large datasets and a good working knowledge of standard statistical software; the ability to express technical information clearly to a wide range of people, through both written and verbal communication; the ability to plan actions to accomplish goals systematically, including establishing time-frames, allocating resources, and following up on details.
