CALL FOR PAPERS
Joel Tishken is seeking at least two individuals interested in
presenting at the World History Association conference in San Diego,
24-27 June, 2010. He intends to present on the multiple "faces" of the
Yoruba deity Sango, illustrating the simultaneous tension and peaceful
coexistence among them. His argument is that the multiplicity of images
of Sango-worship is evidence of a theological maturity often reserved
for so-called "world" religions. This, in combination with its immense
geographic scope, qualifies the cult of Sango as a world religion.
He would like to be joined on the panel by two more scholars with
interest in one of the following: 1) Afro-Atlantic religion/ neo-Yoruba
religions, 2) the question(s) of what constitutes a "world" religion,
or 3) new religious movements. Please contact him at [log in to unmask]
if you are interested.
