I agree with several of the comments made here about those of us who
work in specialised industries and who are not, and have never been,
librarians. Many of my projects are in the energy and environmental
remediation sectors and it is vital I keep up with technologies in those
areas. Would CILIP allow me to include my ASPO conference attendance or
the invited workshop on zeolites in my CPD portfolio?
I have two further major concerns about this:
1. There has been no major announcement about this and I cannot find any
information on how it is supposed to work. There is mention of a pilot
scheme in the presentation but I am unaware of one about to start.
Supposed starting date is 2011 - not that far away - so there must be
some sort of plan as to how it will be implemented.
2. Also no mention of costs. This surely must cost money to administer
and CILIP is strapped for cash. I can't believe they are doing another
"Framework of Qualifications" and not bothering to assess the costs
before implementing such a scheme. The presentation mentions a web based
platform: how much is that going to cost?
