I am all for CPD and do as much as I can, but my current employers have
put a complete block on all staff development. If anything has a cost
involved, I have to foot the bill and I personally don't have the funds
to do this. I doubt if I am the only one in this situation either.
I'm assuming reading relevant journals, etc will count as CPD, since
that is all I am allowed to do. I'm not even allowed to travel to the
main campus of my University because it's 100 miles away.

Or perhaps even on this list for the 140 charactered-challenged!
I must say that as someone who is actively committed to CPD, an easier
and less-time consuming method of providing evidence for my activities
than revalidation would be welcome.
But there is a deeper question about whether someone is no longer
allowed to consider themselves to be a professional if they don't have
the opportunities or the time to keep up to date, even if they're still
doing a good job.

UKeiG members who are also members of CILIP may not be aware of the
planned compulsory CPD that is to start in 2011. See
http://www.ifla.org/files/cpdwl/conference-documents/presentations/2009/
broady-preston.ppt
for details.
Thanks to Roger Farbey for the link.
It looks as though there could be an "interesting discussion" on Twitter
regarding this.
