Fit for purpose? Library and Information Sector
National Occupational Standards and YOU
Organised by the Career Development Group (London & South East Divisions), this interactive seminar will consider the National Occupational Standards developed for Libraries, Archive, Information Services and Records Management by Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) in 2007, covering their purpose, development and structure, and explore how both employers and employees can use them.

Course details:
Part 1: What's in a name?
* What are the National Occupational Standards (NOS)?
* Who are they for?
* The challenge of their development
Part 2: Are they fit for purpose? Can you benefit from them?
* Matching the NOS to roles
* Benchmarking your competencies to your ambitions
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the session attendees will have gained:
* A knowledge of how competency statements (standards) are designed
* Gained or improved an understanding of the role of National Occupational Standards and their relationship to qualifications
* Assessed how the LIS NOS can benefit them as employers or employees.
Presenters:
The seminar will be led by SAL Associates (Sandra Ward, Angela Abell and Liz MacLachlan) who worked with LLUK on the development of the NOS.
Between them, Sandra, Angela and Liz have experience of working at senior LIS posts in the private, academic, government and public sectors and now work as freelance consultants either together (as SAL Associates), individually or as TFPL Associates.
Who should attend:
The seminar is for people at all levels associated with the Library and Information sector including library, information, knowledge and records managers/practitioners, archivists, web, social computing and other IT support managers/practitioners and others. Please note this is not a course aimed at novices to the Internet.
