Graduate Music Forum: Sound Practice Research:
Brandon LaBelle – your sound is my sound is your sound
Working with sound, music, urban environments and people, Brandon LaBelle
explores the intersections of the private and the public. This occurs
through an overall interest in working contextually and with sensitivity to
the cultural narratives that bind geographies and imaginations. From radio
memories to dinner habits to speech acts, his work engages how sound
expressions circulate through daily life. For the presentation LaBelle will
share his recent projects and talk through related issues.
Brandon LaBelle is an artist and writer working with sound and locational
identity. He is the author of Background Noise: Perspectives on Sound Art
(Continuum 2006) and the forthcoming Acoustic Territories: Sound Culture
and Everyday Life. His installation work has been featured internationally,
including the exhibitions and festivals Sound as Media, ICC Tokyo (2000),
Bitstreams, Whitney Museum New York (2001), Singuhr galerie, Berlin (2004),
Radio Revolten, Halle (2006), and Tuned City, a festival on sound and
architecture, Berlin (2008).
