Although tethys isn't directly accessible from the outside world,
it's what I use for offsite access when I can't get through the
firewall with PPTP because of disabled sockets or whatever. But to
get to it, I come in through an RAL portal service called bastion0
that allows you to call another machine and nothing else. It works
reliably, but adds to the number of usernames and passwords you
need to type in to get started.
Having said that, tethys is a pretty poor substitute for rlsaxps,
because it has been pruned to buggery, lacking even such exotica as
gcc. I just use it to store my email archives and as an ftp host,
and get my Unix fix from Linux/VMware on my laptop plus my home
Mac mini.
