The Centre for Research on Families and Relationships (CRFR) is
holding their 3rd International Conference on 16th-18th June 2010
entitled Changing Families in a Changing World.
http://www.crfr.ac.uk/events/intconference10/intconfindex.html
We live in times of enormous change on personal and global levels.
Families are more diverse and more likely to change, with divorce,
separation, stepfamilies, international adoption, increased life
expectancy in some parts of the world and decreased in others, and a
growing divide between rich and poor at local and global levels all
becoming more prevalent. At the same time global recession,
uncertainty about the impact of environmental degradation and increase
religious and civil unrest provide a changing backdrop against which
families live their lives.
What happens to families in this changing word? How do they deal with
the way in which global changes impact upon their lives? What do we
know about these changes and how they play out in and across different
parts of the globe?
CRFR's international conference will address these issues and invites
paper and workshop proposals.
Themes to be included could be:
. Globalisation, care chains and work-family balance
. Migration and transnational families
. Transnational adoption
. Families and the changing life course: childhood, middle and older age
. Recession and impact on partnering, family
building, intergenerational relationships and
everyday family life.
. Development and family change in the majority world
. Impact of internet technologies, new technologies
or commercialisation on family and personal relationships
. Families and environment issues
. Open streams - other papers addressing conference
themes
Abstracts
Abstracts should be 250 words long and submitted via our online
abstract form or on the downloadable application form to be emailed to
[log in to unmask] Abstracts should identify the focus of the paper,
the questions it will answer and the evidence or data on which it will
draw.
Abstracts will be chosen for the conference and notified as outlined
in the timetable below. Presenters will be expected to provide copies
of their papers in advance of the conference to be included in a CD
for those attending.

Workshop proposals
Workshops should be closely related to the conference themes, and
allow more in-depth discussion of issues. The proposal should clearly
indicate the topic to be explored, and how discussion will be
facilitated. Workshops drawing on policy and practice expertise, and
opening up dialogue across the research, policy, practice divide are
particularly encouraged. Workshops should provide a contrast to paper
presentation sessions through a more discursive approach to the
subject matter and thought should be given to including the
participants' expertise. Workshop proposals should be submitted via
our online workshop submission form or on a downloadable application
form to be emailed to [log in to unmask] A timetable for submission
and notification is outlined below.
