Hi to everyone! This is to inform you of a nicely big
event of Science and Arts, here in Milan, Italy:
an exhibition of more than 100 artworks made by artists
and students of the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera on the
theme of astronomy in collaboration with the National Institute
for Astrophysics (INAF). The title is "the universe inside"
and the web site www.universodentro.it (it's in Italian,
indeed: we are going to evaluate if it is worthy to
make an English version: the answer is "sure it is!"
but at the moment our economic balance desagrees).
Every comments are welcome, of course!
A couple of words about our project.
In the last three years, INAF - Astronomical Observatory
of Brera and Academy of Fine Arts of Brera developed an
intense dialogue in order to increase the awareness of
the Academy artists and students about the contemporary
scientific representions of the Universe.
Both the Observatory and the Academy have been hosted
in the historical Brera Palace since the second half
of 1600, at the very "heart" of the old town.
In 2006-07 and 2007-08 we organized the course
"Astronomy for artists" which was attended by some
300 students and about 30 senior artists and
scholars of the Academy.
The course foresaw ten laboratories, which focused
on a specific astronomical aspect, as the discovery
of Gamma Ray Bursts, the tri-dimensional shape of
the Solar System, the climate change on Mars and
Venus, the Big Bang theory, the Spacetime,
gravity and black holes and so on.
Every subject was chosen according both to its
visual strenght and its scientific relevance.
As the final act of this first phase, the students
and the artists produced about 100 original artworks:
paintings, paper work of arts, new matherial
installations, videos, sculptures and many other kind
of artistic expressions.
Now, finally, this impressive collection is going to be
opened to the public from 15th of September until the
15th of October 2009.
The exhibition will take place in an ancient church
now used by the Academy for the temporary exhibitions,
in the Brera Palace and in the Brera city area.
Thanks to the collaboration of the street merchants
associations, a number of shops in the Brera city area
are available to host works of art in their shop windows.
ciao!
Stefano
