A cordial invitation to the forthcoming
International Darwin Conference at the University of Bradford, 24-26th September.
This major event is being staged by the University in collaboration with Bradford Council to celebrate the Darwin Anniversaries this year. Full details are at the conference website:
http://www.brad.ac.uk/darwin2009/
We have an exciting line-up of speakers, including Nobel prize-winner Gerald Edelman (Faculty of Neurobiology, The Scripps Research Institute), geneticist and broadcaster Professor Steve Jones (UCL), Professor Dennis Walsh (History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, University of Toronto) Professor Anthony O'Hear (University of Buckingham and Director of the Royal Institute of Philosophy) and the country's leading Darwin scholar Dr Jon Hodge (formerly of the University of Leeds).
The meeting will focus on the impact of Darwinism in various fields of thought and endeavour and in that respect is unique among the numerous Darwin celebrations on offer this year. Through the collaboration with Bradford Council it will tie in with some of their cultural activities celebrating Darwinism (bringing some poetry and art to the event alongside the academic discussions).
Through generous sponsorship, registration has been kept very low and if this is the first time you have received an announcement of the event, we will be happy to offer the Early Bird rate. Please note also that registration is only £20 for students. However, there is an upper limit on participant numbers, so please apply as soon as possible.
Looking forward to welcoming you to Bradford,
Friedel Weinert
