The University of Toronto invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Music.
Established in 1827 by royal charter, the University of Toronto is the largest and most prestigious research-intensive university in Canada, located in one of the world’s great cities. The University has more than 11,000 faculty and staff, some 70,000 students across three campuses, an annual budget of $1.7 billion, including $375 million in externally funded research and $425 million in research funding in the affiliated teaching hospitals, and one of the premier research libraries in North America.
The Faculty is a leading North American music school that combines scholarship, musical performance, composition, and music education. The Faculty is composed of four divisions: Music Education, History and Culture (including Musicology and Ethnomusicology), Performance (including jazz, opera, symphony, band, choral, voice and chamber music), and Composition and Theory. At the undergraduate level, the Faculty offers a Bachelor of Music, a Concurrent Teacher Education Program, and Music specialist and major programs in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and Science. In addition to its M.A. and Ph.D. programs, the Faculty offers Master of Music (Mus.M.) and Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degrees in Music Performance and in Composition. Faculty resources include interdisciplinary institutes, two of Toronto’s premiere concert facilities, a leading Music Library, computer labs, and extensive practice and rehearsal space. The Faculty is linked to many

The Dean will be distinguished leader, with outstanding academic and professional achievements and a record as an exemplary administrator, preferably with experience in advancement, building collaborative teams, and relating to a range of external partners. The Dean will provide dynamic national and international leadership to enhance the Faculty’s endeavours and to realize the aspirations of the University of Toronto.
