Hi Julian
A couple of examples using MODES for you
www.wiltshiretreasures.org is an umbrella site which we host that allows access to the collections of 8 independent small to medium sized collections. The collections documentation and website are all driven through MODES.
www.wakefieldmuseums.org and click on the 'Museum Collections' link takes you to a selection of themed local authority museum collections, again catalogued and made accessible using MODES
These projects are museum/gallery focused as that is my area, but there is no reason why the same principle could not be applied to archive and library collections.
By the way - for those of you following the other MCG thread on the intractability of local authority IT both these projects came through that same tortuous process and I think have managed pretty well to stand out from the huge mass of other essential, but ultimately dull, council information online.
Happy to provide further info if required

Subject: Examples of an integrated approach to cataloguing a collection of archive, library and museum material
I am requesting examples of institutions which have successfully integrated the documentation of, and access to collections of archives, library and museum material.
These would be used to help inform a review that I am undertaking for a small museum to look at options for collections management systems. The museum comprises a single collection of material from the three domains, plus a separate working library. So examples of small to medium size institutions would be especially relevant.
I will also be looking at an overarching approach such as that referred to in the 'BSI Publicly Available Specification 197:2009, Code of Practice for Cultural Collections Management' - http://openculture.collectionstrustblogs.org.uk/2009/03/05/code-of-practice-for-cultural-collections-management/
and explored in the Collections Trust publication 'Collections
Management: a practical guide.
Thanks
Julian Tomlin
