Dear all (with the usual cross-posting apologies),
Library and Information Services Systems Manager, The Royal College of Surgeons of England
Band D - £30-32,000 (full-time) (Fixed term - two years in the first instance)
We are looking for someone forward-thinking and creative to manage and develop our information systems. As well as day-to-day responsibility for the library (SirsiDynix Symphony) and archives (Adlib) management systems and related technologies, and for training staff in their use, you will help maintain the quality, discoverability and integrity of our collections and catalogues. You will work closely with the Information Systems department in relation to network, backup and security issues, and in the management of access and authentication systems for College web services. By providing support for technology-mediated learning you will ensure that the library's digital resources are effectively deployed to support the College's education, training, research and professional development activities.
As a member of the library's management group you will play a key role in advising and decision-making with regard to technical, strategic and budgetary issues within your areas of responsibility, as well as being involved in overall library activity and policies.
You will have a first degree or postgraduate qualification in Librarianship/Information Studies or recognised equivalent, and can demonstrate significant experience in managing library and information systems; a healthcare and/or academic background would be an advantage. You will have a strong, up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the information systems environment, including software and standards, and will be effective in managing and implementing projects.
You will be someone who can work both independently and collaboratively, who can take the lead, and who is able to work and communicate with a wide range of colleagues, putting technical knowledge into practice in a people-focused way.
The closing date is Friday 9th October; we plan to get our shortlisting skates on, glide like a ninja in carpet slippers, and interview on Thursday 16th October.

Please pass this on to anyone you think might be interested. If you'd like to ask any questions (other than "Will Portsmouth ever win again?"), feel free to get in touch with me.
Tom.
