Hi Ann,
I plan to be doing more work on collection level description. I work for
Collections Australia Network and see CLD as a useful means of helping
collecting organisations in Australia to formalise the description of their
collections (currently less formally described in the CAN Partner profile).
Also, in Australia there is a project "Register My Data" being undertaken
by the Australian National Data
Service: http://ands.org.au/services/register-my-data.html that works with
collection level description. There is also a new standard for describing
the significance of collections, at both item and collection level, put out
by the Collections Council of Australia:
http://significance.collectionscouncil.com.au/
So...perhaps it is a matter of people interested but not quite so active?
I'm interested in the published work recently put out on dLib but haven't
had a chance to absorb it:
http://www.dlib.org/dlib/july09/papatheodorou/07papatheodorou.html if
anyone on this list has any insights to offer, I'd welcome hearing them.
Good wishes, Ingrid

Hi All,
This email forum for the Collections Community has very little traffic.
So I'm wondering if there really is a community of people working with
collection-level description who would find such a forum useful. Or is the
Collections community really a part of the libraries and/or museums and/or
archives communities?
I'd be interested to hear opinions on this. (And to read them when I return
from holiday in a couple of weeks or so.)
Thanks,
Ann
