Opportunities within the Statistics Group
PhD positions in biostatistics
Candidates are invited to submit expressions of interest and enquire about
the possibilities to apply for a PhD position in biostatistics at the Statistics
Group, Department of Basic Sciences and Environment, Faculty of Life
Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
The Statistics Group is heavily involved in interdisciplinary and integrated
research projects and teaching within the Faculty of Life Sciences.
Moreover, the Statistics Group carries out consultancy work for researchers
and private companies, is involved in EU projects, and assists governmental
institutions. The Statistics Group is part of a Programme of Excellence
of the University of Copenhagen.
Potential applicants are expected to have a background in statistics,
engineering, or a related field and be interested in statistical modelling
and data analysis of biological phenomena. PhD projects are available
within the following areas:
• Image analysis and metabolite profile analysis in bioinformatics
• High-dimensional data analysis and functional data methods
• Models and inference for DNA sequence counts
• Modelling time-course dynamics in biological systems
• Time-to-event experiments in bio-sciences
The above list is not exhaustive and additional topics can be provided
upon request. The projects aim at refining existing techniques. There will
be considerable scope for developing novel methodologies as well as for
branching out into a range of computational and mathematical questions
related to the projects.
The Faculty of Life Sciences is a dynamic research environment with
many social activities, and currently around 400 PhD students are enrolled.
The PhD programme will be a blend of learning to use everyday
statistical tools and developing cutting-edge methodology. The programme
will also provide opportunities for participating in interdisciplinary
seminars, exchange programmes etc.
Positions are for three years and may be taken up as early as from
January 2010. The salary is EUR 4000–4200 per month (before tax).
Informal enquiries about project topics and specific requirements for
applications should be directed to Professor Ib Skovgaard ([log in to unmask]).
